Helene Fuld Trust Scholarship recipients announced

Alaina Perez, Metropolitan State University of Denver and Platte Valley Medical Center, was selected by the Foundation’s scholarship committee to receive the scholarship for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in another field who are in an accelerated second-degree program. Ms. Perez says, “Throughout my healthcare journey, I’ve embraced continual learning, maintaining high academic standards and affiliating with organizations like Sigma. This scholarship represents not only financial relief but an investment in a nursing professional dedicated to making a lasting impact on healthcare.”

Kelly Preti, MSN, RN, AGACNP-BC, OCN, PMGT-BC, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, received the scholarship for individuals in a doctoral nursing program. Speaking on her career plans, Ms. Preti said, “I am pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice to advance both my clinical and operational skills and provide high-quality, evidence-based care, effective communication with patients and staff, and innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. I aim to lead as a clinician, educator, and executive within the healthcare community. I aspire to give back to the nursing profession for providing me with such a deep sense of purpose by mentoring, empowering, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to continue advancing the field and improving practice.”

The scholarships are possible because of a grant to the Foundation from the Helene Fuld Health Trust. The 2025 application will open in January.

Future fund update

In 2023, Sigma's board of directors requested an expansion to the United Nations liaison program to provide more continuity and wider reach in order to have a greater impact on global nursing. Jitana Benton-Lee, one of Sigma’s Liaisons to the United Nations, gave remarks at the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) at the end of May. Her remarks begin at 1:57:49 in this UN video of the proceedings. The invaluable activities of Sigma’s Liaisons and Youth Representatives to the United Nations are made possible through contributions to the Sigma Foundation for Nursing’s Future Fund.

Leadership Education Grant recipients

Your donations are helping 20 nurses attend the 35th International Nursing Research Congress. Donors attending congress will have the opportunity to meet these nurse leaders, representing six Sigma global regions, at the Foundation tea.

Small research grants announcement

With the support of donors to the research fund, 15 small grant research studies in two global regions are being funded this month by the Foundation's research permanent fund. Four of the nurse researchers discussed their projects during a virtual presentation. We hope you will watch this video to see the impact your donations are making in global nursing research.

Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy

Thanks to leadership fund donors, numerous Sigma inductees are awarded membership subsidies. These subsidies ensure nursing students and existing members facing financial hardships can continue to receive the benefits Sigma offers. Recent recipient Salima Siraj, MN, BScN, is inspired each day by the profound impact nurses have on patients’ lives.
