Sigma Foundation for Nursing

Advancing world health through nursing research and leadership.

Giving Tuesday 2017
Susan Bonis

Research grants

Last year, 34 research studies were funded thanks to our donors. These grants help nurses make valuable contributions to nursing science to advance health care.

The funds offered through the grant enabled me to further understand the challenges faced by parents seeking a diagnosis and services for their child with autism. These parents are committed to ongoing collaboration to develop a film based on this funded study. The goal of the film is to enhance access to autism and mental health services, and to change policy and budgetary allocations at the state and federal level.

Leadership development

Last year, 34 members received assistance to attend Sigma events to exchange knowledge with nurses from around the world.

It is essential that nurses become aware of what is happening in the global arena by engaging with each other in a global network.

— Portia Bimray, Leadership education grant recipient

Induction GradsLast year, our global network of nursing included 380 members who received assistance to renew or accept their induction invitation due to financial hardships.

I am honored to have the opportunity to become a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. This prestigious society offers so many valuable resources to the nursing profession.

Global initiatives

Last year, 12 nurses and midwives led projects as part of MCHNLA Africa. These projects reached 800 healthcare professionals and improved care for 9,000 babies and mothers.

MCHNLA Africa has instilled me with increased leadership skills. This has helped me, my institution, and the community. It has helped me manage staff more effectively.

— Mpume Xaba, MCHNLA Africa mentor

MCHNLA Africa has done so much not just for me but for my hospital and our clients. We now have an effective and efficient High Care Unit. That would not be possible without the leadership skills gained at MCHNLA Africa.

— Brasby Kesway, MCHNLA Africa mentee

I know that my donation is helping nurses around the globe attend conferences, conduct research, and develop leaders. Giving to the Foundation provides me with warmth in my heart knowing that my donation will go towards my beloved nursing profession.
