Sigma will co-present two virtual parallel events at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
SESSION 1
Climate Change and Women's Health & Well-Being: A Nursing Perspective
Presented by Sigma and The International Council of Nurses
Date: 14 March 2022
Time: 8:00 a.m. Eastern (0800)
Women face higher risks and greater burdens to their health and well-being from the impacts of climate change. Furthermore, their ability to adapt is compromised by legal, political, technical, and financial contexts. Nurses, the majority of whom are women, are witnessing and already responding to the effects of climate change on health and well-being. This event will look at nurses’ contribution to mitigate climate change and to support women and communities around the world to adapt to its impacts. It will also showcase leadership from nurses in building climate resilient health systems that prioritize women and girls.

SESSION 2
Women’s Empowerment Through Careers in Nursing and Midwifery
Presented by Sigma and Jhpiego
Date: 19 March 2022
Time: 10:00 a.m. Eastern (1000)
Programs interested in contributing to women’s empowerment should consider the importance of early, targeted investment in girls and women to prepare them for a range of opportunities and capabilities in nursing and midwifery, contributing in turn to a future generation of empowered, economically stable women.
