Oral Health Equity Grand Challenge

In collaboration with Colgate-Palmolive, Sigma is sponsoring a Grand Challenge initiative related to improving oral health equity and giving a nurse US $10,000 to develop or implement their solution.

Did you know?
According to the World Health Organization's 2022 Global Oral Health Status Report, nearly half of the world's population—45% or 3.5 billion—suffer from oral health diseases. Many of these people are in low- and middle-income countries.

Challenge
Use your knowledge, background, and expertise to develop an innovative approach to addressing oral health equity. The need for oral health care and promoting oral healthcare ranges from prenatal through old age and end of life. Access to oral health services and health promotion and disease prevention related to oral health varies depending on where one lives, access to payment resources for oral healthcare, language, gender, race and ethnicity and other factors.

Purpose
This challenge is designed to provide nurses the opportunity to develop evidence-informed strategies to reduce oral health inequities that could be replicated on a local, national, and international scale. Participants will identify at least one potential intervention to decrease oral health inequities (examples include community-based activities or solutions using technology).

Submit your idea by 11 April 2025!

Recipient benefits

  • Receive US $10,000 in prize money to develop or implement their idea or activity within one year of receiving funding.
