April message from CEO Luke Davis

Connecting, Collaborating, and Advancing Sigma’s Mission

Luke Davis at Creating Health Work Environments holding a small goat.

Dear Sigma members,

I recently had the privilege of attending my first official Sigma event—Creating Healthy Work Environments—and I left feeling truly inspired by the dedication and passion of our global nursing community. Engaging with nearly 400 attendees, including Sigma chapter leaders and members from across the world, reinforced the power of collaboration in transforming workplaces and strengthening the nursing profession. It was an honor to connect with so many academic and clinical nurses who are committed to creating healthier, more effective work environments. A particular highlight was the opportunity to engage with leaders from some of Sigma’s chapters, furthering important conversations about how we can continue to support and elevate our members. I encourage you to explore event highlights by viewing photos on the Creating Healthy Work Environments webpage.

The months ahead present even more opportunities to engage with our Sigma community. I look forward to meeting many of you as I attend several key nursing conferences, including the American College of Nursing Deans Annual Meeting, the AONL Annual Conference, and the National Student Nurses Association Convention. I also encourage you to join us at our next Sigma event—the 36th International Nursing Research Congress in Seattle this July. Congress brings together nurses from across the globe to share cutting-edge research that is shaping the future of our profession, and there is still time to register. I hope to see you there!

Beyond these events, Sigma continues to make an impact on the global stage. On 17 March, I had the distinct honor of joining Sigma United Nations liaisons, youth representatives, and Global Advocacy Academy alumni at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. As one of the few nursing organizations with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Sigma plays a critical role in advocating for the nursing profession on a global scale. Witnessing this firsthand was both humbling and inspiring, reaffirming the importance of our work in influencing the future of healthcare worldwide. If you are interested in learning more about Sigma’s global and UN activities, I encourage you to explore our resources and consider applying for the next Global Advocacy Academy.

As we look toward the future, the Sigma Board of Directors and I are actively engaging with members through focus groups, surveys, and key initiatives to shape our strategic planning efforts. Your insights are invaluable as we continue to enhance and refine Sigma’s programs, products, and services to better support you. I look forward to sharing updates as this work progresses over the coming months and we unveil a new strategic framework later this year for Sigma’s future.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Sigma and to advancing the nursing profession. I hope to see many of you in the weeks and months ahead, and I remain deeply grateful for all that you do each and every day.
