The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Board of Directors condemns the civilian-targeted violence in the Middle East and support the nurses and healthcare workers tending to those affected.
Violence creates humanitarian crisis. As it has been throughout history, nurses and healthcare workers are placed directly in danger on the frontlines. Colleagues in our trusted profession are once again responding to those devastated by this conflict. In accordance with the Geneva Convention and international regulations, we call for the protection of all health workers in the conflict zone. Nurses are not a target. Nurses should never be hostages.
To our colleagues in the conflict: Thank you for all you are doing. Our thoughts are with you.
Above all, we hope for your safety and for peace.
